Event - Feast of St Patrick

17 March 2013

This year, the Feast of St Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland fell on a Sunday. This didn't prevent our children and parents gathering to celebrate the great occasion.

We were very fortunate to collaborate with the Irish heritage board who arranged for an artist to work with the children on an art project culminating in a float to be used in the St Patrick's Day Parade in Birmingham.

The parade is one of the biggest in the world, outside of Dublin and New York and this year the theme was 'Gathering' based upon the idea of people travelling to Ireland in 2013. Our school, along with others, designed a float representing a form of transport to enable families of all generations to 'gather' in the home country!

The PTA also organised a fantastic St Patrick's dance, where our teacher, Mr O'Connor's band 'Cairde' (which means friends) entertained us all.

Finally, our school cooks prepared a delicious Celtic feast for our Monday school dinner.

The Parade gets underway. Mums and dads join in too!
This is our festive train, built by children in Year 4.

The cold weather didn't dampen our enjoyment.
Here are some of the 'engineers' or is it train drivers?

Many of us have Irish relatives and ancestors and we love to celebrate the richness of all cultures in our vibrant school and city.
Everyone enjoyed the fun.
