Event - Hagley Pyramid Concert

12 February 2015

Birmingham Town Hall has showcased many great artists over the years including the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, and on Thursday 12th February 2015, it was no exception when the Hagley Pyramid Schools took to the stage for their annual concert.

Junior children from nine Catholic schools (six of whom now make up the Saint Nicholas Owen Catholic Multi Academy Company) joined together to celebrate the life and music of Sir Elton John in a spectacular array of live music and song.

The concert started with over 250 children on stage singing three lively hymns. Afterwards, each school produced a video and sang an individual song, written by Elton John, telling the story of his life from his early career to today.

Our school performed ‘Your Song’, accompanied by research into the early years of Elton John’s life.

The audience were then treated to a selection of Elton John’s hits sung by all schools including a moving version of ‘Candle in the Wind’, where the concert hall was flooded with lights from mobile phones. The concert ended on a high with a selection of great Elton John classics including ‘Crocodile Rock’ and ‘I’m Still Standing,’ which certainly had the audience up on their feet from their seats.

It was a tremendous evening and the children certainly did themselves proud with a splendid performance. Planning for next year’s concert is already underway, so watch this space.
