Event - Year 6 Inspire Workshop

20 January 2015

On Tuesday 20th January 2015, Year 6’s parents came into school to develop their awareness of how their children could stay safe online at home.

Mrs Greatrex had previously asked Year 6 to complete an anonymous questionnaire about e-safety issues and she shared the results along with national statistical data with the parents. This prompted a healthy discussion and parents offered opinions and views on their child’s use of the internet.

When Year 6 joined their parents, they played the ‘Moral Compass’ game, where they had to choose suitable responses to various e-Safety scenarios located around the room. It was interesting that some parents’ views differed from their child’s opinion. It was agreed that the outcome of some scenarios depended on the situation.

Afterwards, each child worked with their parent to play an e-Safety game, before watching a DVD with a clear message about posting personal information online, and how to be safe when using the internet.

Parents and pupils agreed that it was a really useful Inspire workshop and we would like to thank our parents for their continued support, participation and valuable feedback.
