Event - Farewell Mrs Martin

18 July 2014

On 18th July 2014 the school community wished Mrs Martin a fond farewell as she retired as Headteacher of Our Lady of Fatima School. Mrs Martin enjoyed many celebrations throughout the week to mark her retirement.

The week began with a Thanksgiving Mass. Our parish priest, Father Seamus concelebrated Mass with Father Michael, Mrs Martin’s parish priest from Holy Trinity Church, Sutton Coldfield. The Mass was an uplifting celebration of Mrs Martin’s career in education. Mrs Martin welcomed her family, friends, past and present colleagues and of course the whole school community.

Following the Mass, Mrs Martin was presented gifts of gratitude from the staff, pupils and parents of the school, the PTA and the Governing Body.

Father Michael presented Mrs Martin and her husband Steve with a Papal Blessing recognising the dedication and commitment Mrs Martin has made to catholic education.

The afternoon of celebrations concluded with a buffet for Mrs Martin’s family, colleagues and friends .

The celebrations continued with a final Thanksgiving Assembly dedicated to Mrs Martin. Each class sang a ‘Goodbye Song’ to Mrs Martin and presented her with a class memory book.

The finale to this special assembly was an adapted rendition of ‘Oh Carol’ originally sung by Neil Sedaka, but on this occasion led by the school staff. Mrs Workman conducted the ‘Staff Band’ and all the children joined in.

Oh Carol, Headteacher of our school
Oh Mrs Martin, We think you’re supercool
Now you’re re-tiring, And we wish you well
We hope that you won’t miss
The sound of the school bell.

We’d like to say, there’ll never be another
And we’ll miss you so
Sorry you’re leaving
We know you have to go.

We’d like to thank you for your inspiration
For everything you’ve done
Oh Carol, You’ve been so much fun.

We wish Mrs Martin a long, happy and restful retirement and thank her for all that she has done for the whole school community at Our Lady of Fatima School.
