Event - Operation Christmas Child

27 November 2015

The parents and children at Our Lady of Fatima School yet again demonstrated their kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity by helping children in Kyrgyzstan, Central Asia to have the best celebrate Christmas ever.

Every year children at Our Lady of Fatima School are encouraged to think of others as part of their preparations for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas. We shared video footage of the excitement on young children’s faces overseas as they received their own Christmas box of goodies to open at Christmas.

'Operation Christmas Child' was once again a resounding success as our pupils and their families generously donated Christmas gifts to these children.

Our school value for the month of November was ‘consideration’. Children certainly extended their thoughtfulness towards others overseas as they prepared their Christmas gift boxes. There was a wide range of gifts suitable for all children aged between the ages of 2 and 14 years. Mrs van Vliet set the children a challenge to beat last year’s collection of Christmas boxes and we rose to the challenge as an amazing 118 boxes were donated, which was a record for our school.

There was a great feeling of satisfaction as the School Council presented their boxes to the collectors, knowing that their charitable donations would light up the faces of many children on Christmas day.

Thank you to our pupils and their families for their generosity of giving, but also for their generosity of remembering others less fortunate than themselves in prayer.

Saint Francis of Assisi reminds us that: ‘It is in giving that we receive’.
